Fizzle. Cackle. Pop! It's about time for another Campfire Story, this time, it was one of those Murphy's Law kind of days.

Murphy's Law states that "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong."
It literally did, from the time I woke up until I ended my day.... So I'm going to start at the beginning of the shit show.
My alarm went off, reminding me to get up. My body still ached from the day before & I needed just a few more moments. I thought I turned on a 5 minute timer. Nope! I shut off my alarm completely. Only thing that woke me up was my bladder. I had less than 15 minutes to throw my clothes on & drive to work. I scrambled quickly & ran out the door.
I realized that I didn't have my keys & I had locked my front door. Thankfully it didn't latch all of the way & I was able to get back in. Ran back out to my car only to realize that I left my phone. Ran back inside grabbed my phone. Ran back to my car, jumped in & took off. Going fast as I could to work without potentially getting pulled over for speeding.
If I didn't get there by a certain time after I was supposed to be there the overnight managers would lock the door. So I called & explained that I was running a bit late & that I'd be there shortly. He said he would wait for me.
So I finally get to work in what felt like an eternity on driving. I arrived a few minutes before the "cut off time." However, the overnight manager wasn't there to open the door for me. I called again & he said that he'd get back to the front door as soon as possible. He said that there had been an accident he was dealing with in receiving.
Ended up not being able to clock in almost 30 minutes after I was supposed to be there. I was late by 2 minutes according to my scheduled. It wasn't going well because I had to get prep done before I even got to start my day so I was behind with everything.
Things kept getting worse with more set backs as my day went on. I had dropped an entire tray of food I just finished making onto the floor & cleaned up the mess. Only to accidentally knock over another try of food that I had thawing out to bake next.
Things were starting to smooth out a bit about half way into my shift. However, several of my co workers started struggling with keeping product from our dept from falling out of their hands & onto the floor too. Including several freshly made cakes & catering orders.
Well, we had gotten overwhelmingly busy & everyone was running around everywhere. Trying to keep up with the demand of a sudden rush that gave us a bit of a line of waiting customers.
An elderly man in a nice suit came up to the counter & wanted to pick his full sheet cake that he ordered for his granddaughter's wedding. Now, mind you I was the unfortunate one who was supposed to hand him his order. I go to the cooler & gingerly pick up his full sheet cake & walk it steadily out of the cooler.
My customer was standing in the open area between two stations. I deliberately took slower steps because I didn't want anything else bad to happen. I get about 4-5 feet away from the customer when I got accidentally tripped by one of my managers of the department. He was trying to catch the $130 worth of meat that was falling to the floor behind me & accidentally kicked my foot as I was picking it up off of the ground.
I lurched forward unable to catch my footing & fell. I tried like hell to prevent the cake from slipping out of my hands. Instead the cake falls right at his feet & the cake lid flew off as did most of the frosting & cake. Splattering all over my customer! From his head, to his elegant suit, completely covered his glasses, & all of the way down to his brand new looking dress shoes. The exploded frosting/cake mess completely covered the walls on either side of the opening. My hands, arms, face, & my hat/hair also had frosting & cake blotches too.
I started crying, it was the last thing I wanted was a severely upset customer. Already shit show of a day & I really had to mess up this badly? I started to apologize profusely. My manager who had accidentally tripped me helped me up on my feet. He also started to apologize to the newly caked & frosted up customer. Who was actually laughing hysterically. I started to think that I was dreaming that he was laughing. Instead of getting ready to explode & vent his anger out on me.
I had tears blocking my vision mostly & I aggressively wiped them away. Even though there was cake & frosting on the top of my hands I had to face whatever music that I was expecting to play. I didn't see him take off his glasses, but I could tell that he was laughing now. I wasn't sure if it was out of anger, frustration or that it truly was hilarious to him being completely covered in frosting & parts of cake. I went back to apologizing because I felt so bad.
My manager defended me saying that it was his fault & that he will do whatever he can to make things right. The customer claimed that this was the best pre-wedding experience he's ever had his entire life! He had several hrs before the wedding actually started. He chatted with us for a few moments before leaving to clean up.
The company paid for his dry cleaning service for the suit & shoes. The cake decorator made another cake & put it in a shopping cart in the cooler. He came back about two hrs later all cleaned up & in a new suit. I grabbed the shopping cart & walked it over to him. He kinda looked disappointed. I asked if there was something wrong.
He told me that he wasn't allowed to get a video clip of the cake explosion. That it would have won America's funniest home videos. I apologized once more & thanked him for his patience & understanding.
The rest of the day was filled with more mishaps but nothing compared to that... It didn't end until I finally got home & went to bed.
To this day he comes in weekly, we chat while I serve him product from my dept. Every time I see him he asks if he has missed anymore exploding cakes..😂🤣😂🤣😂☠️🤭
